Metal Gear Solid Organizations
Here are the organizations, or units, found in the Metal Gear Solid series.
FOXHOUND:
High-Tech
Special Forces Unit Foxhound is a Special Forces unit in the Metal Gear
series, focusing on covert infiltration operations. In 1971, Foxhound
is founded by the United States government under the command of Big
Boss, in a bid to resolve (by questionable methods) regional conflicts,
and global terrorist activities. Foxhound operates outside the bounds
of official truth, carrying out the highest classification covert
operations within unauthorized combat zones. Official intervention is
often not possible due to the specific political sensitivity of a given
situation.
Unit History:
Under Big Boss's command (1971-1995)
Big
Boss founds Foxhound in 1971 after the Fox unit is disbanded in 1970.
Under the command of Big Boss, Foxhound officially performs various
missions for the United States government, when in actuality it is
being used by Big Boss to eliminate his personal enemies. The situation
surmounts with the Outer Heaven incident, revealing Big Boss as the
"legendary mercenary" in command of the fortified nation. Big Boss is
subsequently defeated and Colonel Roy Campbell assumes operational
command of Foxhound.
Under Col. Campbell's command (1995-2000)
Under
the command of Colonel Campbell, Foxhound is a unit more dependant on
advanced technology, such as communications equipment, signal
intelligence and spy satellites. The unit also rejected the use of
codenames; however, Solid Snake retains his out of habit. Snake retires
along with Colonel Campbell after the Zanzibar Land incident. After
Campbell's retirement, Liquid Snake assumes control of the unit.
Under Liquid Snake's command (2000-2005)
Under
the command of Liquid Snake, Foxhound re - adopt the use of codenames,
and members are assigned with regards to a specifically exceptional
talent or ability that would be beneficial to the unit. The unit goes
from strength to strength, until Liquid Snake leads a "revolution"
assuming control of the nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow
Moses Island. Colonel Campbell and Solid Snake are blackmailed out of
retirement to deal with the situation, after which the unit is finally
disbanded.

DEAD CELL:

Dead Cell is an anti - terrorist Special
Forces unit in the Metal Gear series. The name “Dead Cell” is a reflection of
the unit’s anti-terrorist functions, as they carried out unannounced assaults
on government complexes, as a series of terrorism simulations.
Unit History:
Under Commander Jackson’s command (????
- ????)
Dead Cell is initiated by president George
Sears (Solidus Snake) as a counter terrorist unit. Dead Cell’s founding member,
Commander Jackson, was in operational command of the unit, until he was faced
with corruption charges (on the basis of misappropriating government funds) and
is subsequently sent to the stockade. He is later found to have died from an
apparent suicide.
As a Rogue Terrorist Unit (???? - 2008)
After failing to prove Commander Jackson’s
innocence, Dead Cell turns into a rogue terrorist outfit, indiscriminately
killing civilians. The situation surmounts with the death of two Dead Cell
members; Old Boy, and Chinaman, six months prior to the Big Shell incident.
Under Solidus Snake’s command (2009)
Under the operational command of Solidus
Snake, Dead Cell merges with the Gurlukovich Russian private army and assumes
control of an offshore cleanup facility named “The Big Shell.” In reality, The
Big Shell is not a decontamination facility, but a camouflage for the new Metal
Gear unit, Arsenal Gear. With Arsenal Gear, Dead Cell intend to detonate a
nuclear device over Wall Street, in a bid to bring the world economy to a
standstill - in their words - “liberating” the people from a secret
world-governing body known as “The Patriots.” The plan itself fails as the unit
is divided - Solidus Snake effectively abandoning the unit to pursue his own
goals. In the additional light of the death of members Fatman and Fortune, Dead
Cell is ultimately disbanded. Vamp, the only surviving member (and supposed
successor to the unit) has not been heard of since.
