Metal Gear Models:
This page is dedicated to the many Metal Gear units
_____________________________________________________________________________________
The original Metal Gear model TX-55 was created in Outer Heaven in 1995 by scientist Dr. Drago Pettrovich
Madnar. It was destroyed by Solid Snake before it could become fully active. Its armament included a 15mm
Vulcan cannon, a 20mm laser cannon and multiple medium-range nuclear warheads. The TX-55's main weakness
was its legs, which could be taken out with the correct amount of high density explosives.

Metal Gear D:
Development of the Metal Gear D unit was initiated by Big
Boss and Dr. Madnar during the Zanzibar incident, and
destroyed again by Solid Snake. The D unit is the fully developed
version of the TX-55, and its standard armament included a
60mm Vulcan Gun, a 5.56mm machinegun, and a missile pod
with a capacity for six long range nuclear warheads. As with the
prototype variant TX-55 unit, Metal Gear D's main weakness was
its legs, which could be taken out with an explosive such as a hand
grenade.

Metal Gear REX:
The Metal Gear REX unit was a last-ditch effort on behalf of weapons manufacturer ArmsTech. After bribing
DARPA Chief Donald Anderson to get Pentagon black budget funding for its development, ArmsTech produces
a single prototype, which is sent to be tested at a nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island.
Rex is armed with near-impregnable compound armour, a pair of Vulcan cannons, anti-tank missiles, and a
free-electron laser, to protect itself from conventional forces. Its primary weapon is a rail gun, capable of
launching a nuclear warhead anywhere on the face of the planet. As this launch method has no propellant
trail or launch flare that would otherwise give away the launch position of a traditional ballistic missile, it
cannot be detected in any way. Unlike its predecessors, REX's legs are heavily armoured and completely stable,
however, its main weakness is the radome on its right arm. The metals that comprise the radome are extremely
sensitive and easily destroyed by a high impact explosion. If the radome was to be taken offline, the cockpit
would automatically drop open. If then a projectile explosive could be delivered into the cockpit it would
destroy the interior, effectively rendering the unit harmless. This weakness was an intentional addition to
REX's design by chief engineer Hal Emmerich, claiming it was a character flaw. The flaw itself was exploited
by Solid Snake, who destroyed the unit during the Shadow Moses incident.

Metal Gear RAY:
Metal Gear RAY comes in two variants: a manned
prototype version, developed to combat derivatives
of Metal Gear REX, and an unmanned mass produced
version, refitted to defend Arsenal Gear.Prototype Version
Developed by the US Marine Corps to locate and eliminate
derivative Metal Gear REX units. RAY is an amphibious
craft which allows for manoeuvrability in land and at sea
the long tail is intended for balance whilst making leaps or
operating underwater. The entirety of the forward interior
of the cockpit is a heads-up display, allowing the pilot to
look around as if there were no obstruction between him
and the battlefield. Unlike REX, which had its exterior sensor
concentrated in a single, vulnerable radome, the sensors
(including cameras, radar emitters, and an array of passive
detection sensors) are distributed throughout the body. RAY
armament includes a pair of machine guns and six missile
tubes to defend itself from conventional battlefield threats.
Its primary weapon is a powerful water jet, which can cut through
heavily-armoured foes, such as Metal Gear REX clones. RAY's
interior functionality appears to be much more organic. It has
artificial fibres that contract when electricity is applied; much
like natural muscle, instead of typical hydraulics; this pseudo
muscle tissue makes it very manoeuvrable. It also has a system
of conductive nanotubes, which connect the widely dispersed
sensor systems and relay commands from the cockpit to the
various parts of RAY's body, automatically bypassing
damaged systems andrerouting to auxiliary systems when
needed. Another feature is itsblood - like armour - repair
nanopaste, which is secreted from valveswhenever the exterior
surface is damaged. RAY's armour is made ofan advanced
ceramic titanium alloy.Mass Produced VersionThemass
produced Metal Gear RAY units are refined adaptations of the
prototypeMarine Corps Metal Gear RAY, used solely for defending
Arsenal Gear. The unit is redesigned for control by the AI known as
"GW" in defence of Arsenal Gear. Arsenal Gear has a force of 25 RAYs ready for immediate deployment against any impending
threat. The mass - produced RAY's lack the tail and cockpit of the prototype, and have only one sensory output as opposed the
prototype version.

Arsenal Gear:
Arsenal Gear is a submersible, mobile fortress, with the ability to monitor, block, and tamper with internet
communications in order to further the goals of The Patriots. Arsenal Gear is large enough to house - and also
require - a significant force for its defence. It has an unspecified number of onboard Tengu Commandos, soldiers
clad in bionic exoskeletons and armed with P90 submachine guns and high-frequency blades. It also has a
squadron of 25 mass-produced Metal Gear RAY units, each of which is under the direct control of GW, the AI
controlling Arsenal Gear. Its main weakness was that it was virtually worthless without a nuclear payload; the
RAY's to protect it, and full sea, land, and air support. Unless it is capable of sustaining such needs, Arsenal Gear
is nothing more than "a gigantic coffin."

Metal Gear Gekkou:
These mass-produced unmanned Metal Gear models known
as Gekkou (derived from the Japanese word meaning Moonlight)
appear to be sectionised in their design; the top half of their
bodies appearing to derive from the REX unit, being mechanical
in construction, whereas the bottom half seems to derive from the
RAY unit, consisting of what seems to be artificially produced
muscle. The unit can bleed if cut whether this is an adaptation
of the nanopaste seen with Metal Gear RAY or actual blood
remains unknown. The Gekkou unit has incredibly strong
surface armour, capable of resisting fire from assault rifles, though
sharp objects such as blades are able to destroy it. Each unit is
controlled by an onboard AI system, and multiple units seem to
be able to operate with each other, executing attacks and traps
in a team fashion in order to eliminate a target. Other parts of
its equipment include an infrared radome, surface-to-air guided
Missiles, an M2 .50 Machine Gun, and it has a storage compartment
accompanied by flexible cable - like tentacles to hand personnel
equipment when necessary. The Gekkou can also imitate animal
noises in order to lure a potential target into a false sense of security.

Shagohod:
The Shagohod (Referred to in English as The Treading Behemoth) while not a Metal Gear variant
per se, has a similar design and role. Rather than being a bipedal tank, it is an unconventional tank, armed
with an intermediate-range ballistic missile it can propel to intercontinental ranges. Like the various Metal
Gear variants, it can be operated by a single pilot, although it has a station for a co-pilot. The Shagohod
has an articulated body, split into two parts. The front part has a pair of Archimedes screws on hydraulic legs,
which pull the bulky rear portion, suspended on an air cushion. With a sufficiently large flat piece of land
(such as a highway or landing strip), the Shagohod can fire its rocket boosters to build up speed up to 300 mph
before firing its primary weapon: an intermediate-range ballistic missile. In doing so, it serves as an additional
stage for the rocket, allowing it to strike at targets nearly anywhere in the world. The Shagohod's conventional
armament is comprised of three DShKM machine guns; two with 300 rounds mounted to defend against infantry,
one with 360 rounds mounted in a turret to defend against airborne threats, six 9K112 Kobra surface-to-air
guided Missiles to protect against aircraft, and a 100 barrel volley gun to defend against armor. The Shagohod
is seemingly impenetrable, however, if it is to lose its rear armor, it can be destroyed with a explosive projectile. |
